Aldo Brizzi is a composer and conductor. His work brings contemporary music into dialogue with classical traditions and popular cultures, through a personal language that combines rigor, expressive freedom and an interdisciplinary outlook. His operas — including Mambo Místico, Ópera dos Terreiros, Jelin, Amor Azul and I-Juca Pirama — have received more than 150 performances and broad international exposure. Since 2016 he has been Music Director of the Núcleo de Ópera da Bahia.

Aldo Brizzi is a composer and conductor. His work connects contemporary music with classical and popular traditions, combining formal rigor, originality of language and expressive strength. His operas have led to more than 150 performances, with television broadcasts and wide coverage in the international press. Among his most significant recent works are Amor Azul and I-Juca Pirama, created in collaboration with Gilberto Gil and Paulo Coelho.

As a composer, his orchestral works have been performed by major institutions and orchestras, including the European Union Youth Orchestra, SWR Sinfonieorchester Baden-Baden, the Danish Radio Orchestra, the Orchestra of Teatro La Fenice in Venice, the Orchestra of Teatro Massimo in Palermo, the Bamberger Symphoniker and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France. His music has been interpreted by soloists such as Alexander Balanescu, Ezio Bosso, Irvine Arditti, Rohan de Saram and Saschko Gawriloff.

He is the author of numerous operatic works, including Mambo Místico, Gabriel et Gabriel, Ópera dos Terreiros, Jelin, Amor Azul and I-Juca Pirama. Ópera dos Terreiros, emblematic of his work with the Núcleo de Ópera da Bahia, has been presented in Brazil, France, Italy and Benin, with television broadcasts and wide international circulation. Jelin premiered in Alessandria in 2021; Amor Azul premiered in concert form in Paris in 2022 and was later performed again in São Paulo and Salvador de Bahia.

As a conductor, since 2016 Aldo Brizzi has been Music Director of the Núcleo de Ópera da Bahia. He has also served as Principal Conductor of the Ensemble des Ferienkurse de Darmstadt, the Grupo de Música Contemporânea de Lisboa and the Nuovo Ensemble Italiano. As a guest conductor he has led numerous international ensembles, including the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, the Orchestra da Camera di Santa Cecilia, the Bamberger Symphoniker, the Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa, Ensemble Recherche and l’Itinéraire.

His work also includes major recordings and discographic projects. The album Brizzi do Brasil has become a paradigm of the success of art music within a popular context, receiving the Caymmi Prize, the Audrey Hepburn Foundation Prize and Platinum Record status in Portugal. He has also collaborated with artists such as Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Teresa Salgueiro, Wimme Saari, Raghunath Manet, Tom Zé, Carlinhos Brown and Arnaldo Antunes.
